Hyderabad, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Hyderabad police intervened on Sunday to prevent a rally organized by the BJP from Balapur to the Bhagyalakshmi Temple at Charminar, ahead of Telangana Liberation Day. This action sparked outrage from party officials, who expressed their discontent with the police’s decision.
Among those detained was BJP leader Andela Shriramulu Yadav, responsible for the Maheshwaram constituency. The BJP condemned the denial of permission for the rally, claiming it reflects the Congress government’s fear of democracy and patriotism. A post from the party’s Telangana unit stated, “The refusal to permit the rally clearly shows how much the Congress government fears the spirit of democracy and patriotism, especially after banning ‘Vande Mataram.'”
Telangana BJP president N. Ramachandra Rao questioned whether commemorating Telangana Liberation Day in a Congress-ruled state was a crime. He accused the Congress party of crushing democracy by halting the ‘Vimochana Jaitrayatra’ and arresting party leaders. In a post on the platform X, he remarked, “It is shameful. Why is Congress so afraid of celebrating Telangana Liberation Day? While we have moved on since 1948, Congress’s mindset still reflects the DNA of Razakars and Nizam.”
The BJP plans to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17, marking the day in 1948 when the then-Hyderabad state merged into the Indian Union. For the fifth consecutive year, the central government will host the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Ground in Secunderabad.
This year’s event will feature Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest, who will hoist the national flag and review a parade of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Other dignitaries, including Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, will also be present.
Both the central and state governments will observe the day with different themes. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will hoist the national flag at the main event in Hyderabad’s Public Garden. The state government is celebrating it for the third consecutive year as ‘Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam’ (Day of People’s Governance).
Official ceremonies will take place in all 32 district headquarters, where state ministers, government advisors, and key representatives will hoist the national flag and pay tribute. National flags will also be raised in all government offices, urban local bodies, and village panchayats.
While the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government celebrated September 17 as ‘National Unity Day’ in 2022 and 2023, the Congress, which came to power in December 2023, has decided to commemorate the occasion as ‘Praja Palana Dinotsavam.’
