New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wading raised concerns on Monday regarding the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decision to include notorious gangster Gurpreet Sekhon, who was the mastermind behind the Nabha jail break incident. Wading directed his questions towards AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal during a meeting in New Delhi, where he also spoke with Sachin Pilot, the newly appointed state in-charge for the party.
Wading highlighted Pilot’s popularity as a leader, noting that he has consistently been in high demand, particularly during his tenure as the president of the Indian Youth Congress, where he was often compared to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
In a subsequent media briefing, Wading asserted that the entire Punjab Congress unit stands united and will soon present a cohesive leadership front. He criticized AAP for what he termed “dirty politics born out of despair,” especially regarding the inclusion of Sekhon, who is reportedly set to contest from the Ferozepur district, despite the area already having an incumbent MLA.
“It is clear that AAP has lost its political ground and is now resorting to using gangsters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections,” Wading stated. He reminded Kejriwal of his past criticisms of Punjab’s law and order situation following the 2016 Nabha jail break incident.
“Now, the same Kejriwal is bringing the mastermind of that escape into his party. The people of Punjab are watching this closely,” he added. Wading emphasized that the public wishes to rid themselves of gangsters, yet AAP appears to be empowering them by welcoming them into the party.
He also recalled how Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had previously criticized the Akali Dal for nominating a gangster’s mother as a candidate during the Tarn Taran by-election. Wading questioned AAP’s leadership, asking, “How will you face the public after admitting someone with 47 criminal cases, including the Nabha jail break?”
