New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Harish Khurana, a spokesperson for the Delhi government and legislator from Motinagar, has accused opposition parties Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress of politicizing the recent tragic building collapse in Satya Niketan, which resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.
In a video statement, Khurana emphasized that the immediate priority should have been rescuing students trapped in the debris, rather than engaging in blame games. He reminded AAP that during their tenure in Delhi and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), there were over 700 building collapse incidents in 2023 and 2024, leading to more than 50 fatalities.
Khurana also urged Congress to recall the time when they were in power, highlighting a significant collapse in Lalita Park, East Delhi, which took the lives of over 65 people. He stressed that political finger-pointing would not lead to any constructive outcomes and reaffirmed the commitment of the BJP-led government, under the leadership of Rekha Gupta, to take stringent action.
The Chief Minister has already suspended five MCD officials and ordered the sealing of an illegal fifth floor in the affected building. “We will fix the system,” Khurana stated, assuring that the Delhi government is sensitive to the situation and actively working on the ground.
Earlier on Sunday, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that both the central and state governments, along with the MCD, stand in solidarity with the grieving families. He highlighted that the immediate focus is on rescuing those trapped and providing medical assistance, followed by a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident. Malhotra warned that if any department is found negligent during the investigation, strict action would be taken against responsible officials and engineers.
