Ashwini Sharma Criticizes Punjab Government for Lack of Faith in Constitution and Judiciary

Pathankot, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Punjab has intensified following the absence of the state government at the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Ashwini Sharma, the acting president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a sitting MLA, launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, asserting that it shows no faith in either the Constitution or the judiciary.

Sharma claimed that while the AAP government promotes a “gangster-free Punjab,” it simultaneously honors a gangster with 47 criminal cases against him. “The term ‘government’ should be removed from their title,” he remarked, expressing concern over the party’s approach to governance. He emphasized that the current AAP administration lacks respect for the Constitution and the judicial system, aiming instead to rule according to its whims.

He highlighted the importance of the Chief Justice’s appointment process, which involves the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. Instead of welcoming this appointment, Sharma criticized the AAP government for opposing it, reflecting a troubling mindset.

Targeting AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Sharma accused him of speaking about democracy while failing to adhere to democratic principles. He lamented that Punjab is governed by a party that does not trust the Constitution or the judiciary, calling it unfortunate for the state.

Sharma pointed out that the appointment process is systematic, involving approval from the Supreme Court and subsequent actions by the President and the Governor. He described AAP as a party that spreads chaos, questioning its commitment to maintaining order.

Despite the Chief Justice’s swearing-in ceremony being overshadowed by the absence of Punjab’s Chief Minister, Sharma noted that the same government found time to honor a gangster. This contradiction, he argued, undermines their claims of wanting a gangster-free Punjab while establishing a special task force for the same purpose.

Sharma concluded by stating that the current environment in Punjab is one of fear, with traders and industries feeling threatened. He criticized the Chief Minister for prioritizing the gangster’s recognition over trust in the judiciary.
