Chandigarh, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab BJP Vice President Fateh Jung Bajwa has launched a scathing critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over several issues. His comments came in response to Gurpreet Singh Sekhon joining AAP, raising concerns about law and order in Punjab and the messages being sent to the youth.
Bajwa specifically questioned the state government’s approach to the appointment of the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He accused the Mann administration of attempting to interfere in the judicial appointment process by trying to halt the Chief Justice’s oath-taking ceremony through a cabinet proposal. He emphasized that the government’s role in this constitutional process should be minimal, as it involves institutions like the collegium, the central law ministry, and the governor.
He stated that creating disputes regarding the judiciary is inappropriate. Bajwa noted that public interest litigations have been filed against the government’s stance, warning that such actions could diminish public trust in AAP among the people of Punjab. Referring to Sekhon’s controversial past, he criticized the inclusion of individuals with criminal backgrounds in the party, suggesting this sends the wrong message to the state’s youth. He recalled AAP’s previous criticisms of gangsterism by the Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress, questioning the party’s current alliances.
Bajwa also mentioned the Nabha jail break incident linked to Sekhon, arguing that associating with such figures raises serious concerns. He posed a rhetorical question about whether the government believes it can secure political support through intimidation.
On the appointment of Sachin Pilot as the Punjab Congress in-charge, Bajwa acknowledged it as an internal party matter but doubted it would resolve the party’s internal conflicts. He highlighted the ongoing rifts between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan, suggesting similar factions exist within Punjab Congress. He pointed to the alleged power struggles involving Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding.
Bajwa asserted that internal strife within Congress typically escalates before elections, leading to political setbacks. He referenced the significant drop in seat numbers following Captain Amarinder Singh’s removal as Chief Minister after Congress formed the government in 2017. He questioned how Congress could present a united front to the public if its leaders continue to battle amongst themselves, raising doubts about their ability to form a government in future elections.
