New Delhi, June 24: Police in Karnataka’s Davangere have arrested a suspected terrorist believed to be linked to Pakistan. Authorities claim they discovered information related to suspicious terrorist activities on the suspect’s WhatsApp account.
The accused has been identified as Suhail, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Acting on intelligence and directives from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), police successfully apprehended the suspect during a search operation.
Reports indicate that he was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Davangere district police and intelligence officials. Suhail had recently arrived in Harihara taluk for painting work and was residing in a village under the jurisdiction of the Harihara Rural Police Station.
Earlier, on Monday, a significant anti-terror operation led to the arrest of a woman in Jaipur, Rajasthan, who was allegedly functioning as a sleeper cell for Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The woman has been identified as Babita Dhakad, who reportedly used the alias ‘Khadija.’
Initial investigations revealed that Babita was allegedly in contact with Pakistani terrorist operatives via social media platforms and encrypted messaging applications. Security agencies reportedly found that she had interacted with online groups and profiles suspected of promoting extremist ideologies and radicalizing youth.
Officials claim that after being influenced by these networks, she adopted the name ‘Khadija’ and allegedly became involved in activities linked to JeM’s sleeper cells. Forensic analysis of the mobile phone and digital devices recovered from the suspect revealed connections to networks associated with major terrorist incidents. The investigation team also claimed that Babita’s contact and communication records included numbers linked to JeM commander Qari Zarar.
Qari Zarar’s name emerged in connection with the 2016 Nagrota Army camp attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities also uncovered links to individuals associated with Yusuf Azhar, a relative of JeM founder Masood Azhar, who is implicated in the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814.
Officials allege that Babita had become a crucial link in this network and was reportedly preparing to flee to Pakistan as directed by her handlers before the intervention of security agencies.
