Ayodhya, January 29 – The Supreme Court has stayed the implementation of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) new guidelines amid widespread protests across the country. The court expressed concerns that the new rules could lead to misuse.
The decision has been warmly welcomed by the saint community, who remain hopeful that the upcoming hearing will also favour the general category.
Mahant Sitaram Das Maharaj from Saket Bhavan Temple in Ayodhya praised the Supreme Court’s move, saying, “I sincerely appreciate the Supreme Court’s decision to put a hold on this unfair law and schedule the hearing for March 19. The protests by the Swarn community across the nation highlight their concerns, and this decision reflects respect for their demands. We advocate unity, not discrimination. To keep the country united, caste-based discrimination must end. India needs unity and solidarity to become a world leader. Division will only lead to fragmentation.”
Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das stated, “We have always trusted the Supreme Court because any law favouring one community over another only spreads hatred and unrest. Such discrimination is unacceptable. I urge the youth to continue trusting the judiciary, as it has the ability to deliver justice for the nation.” He added that the court’s future hearings will be fair and inclusive of all communities.
Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya Maharaj remarked, “The Supreme Court has delivered justice as the highest authority. The law forced students into unnecessary competition, despite teachers already being responsible for their education. Such a law was unnecessary and could have extended to police and military training, causing further division. The court’s decision is rightful, and we are grateful.”
Mahant Swami Narayan Das Maharaj of Shri India Milap Ashram in Rishikesh welcomed the ruling, saying, “The UGC’s new rule was already part of their existing framework. The only change was neglecting a particular group. Our country is making statues but stifling talent. We never saw caste discrimination in childhood; politics is dividing society.”
