Major Green Corridor Project Launched in Lucknow Without Government Budget: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow, March 14: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Green Corridor project in Lucknow on Friday, with an investment of ₹1,519 crores.

During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the residents of Lucknow, stating that the city has become a symbol of “Smile, you are in Lucknow.” He emphasized that Lucknow is rapidly emerging as a modern city in New India. A state capital should facilitate easy access for its citizens, and this is why modern connectivity and infrastructure are being developed swiftly in Lucknow.

The Chief Minister explained that when the idea to improve Lucknow’s connectivity was proposed, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presented the vision. Following this vision, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) brought the project to fruition.

CM Yogi highlighted that this initiative is a significant step towards making traffic management in Lucknow more efficient, organized, and modern, thereby enhancing commuting facilities for city residents.

He noted that the state government did not allocate a separate budget for this project. Instead, the LDA freed government land from illegal occupations and utilized it to generate resources, completing this ambitious project at a cost of ₹1,519 crores.

The Chief Minister stated that this model in urban development serves as an inspiring example of how better resource management can lead to the successful completion of large projects. Under the Green Corridor project, two phases have been completed, connecting IIM Road to the Pakka Bridge and from the Pakka Bridge (Dali Ganj) to the Samta Mulak Chauraha. The entire project spans approximately 28 kilometers, facilitating smoother traffic flow across various parts of the capital.

CM Yogi mentioned that the establishment of the Green Corridor will significantly transform traffic management in the capital. Routes that previously took 45 minutes to an hour will now be covered in just 10 to 15 minutes, saving time and reducing congestion in the city.

He also highlighted that infrastructure development is ongoing in Lucknow, with land being freed from illegal encroachments and development works worth crores being undertaken. This is leading to the creation of new facilities in the city.

The Chief Minister noted that visitors from across the country and the world appreciate Lucknow’s cleanliness, improved roads, and modern systems. They are impressed by the city. It was Rajnath Singh during the Atal government who provided the city with the gift of Shaheed Path. Later, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and with the assistance of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the construction of Kisan Path was undertaken, giving Lucknow a new identity as an outer ring road. These routes are now forming the basis for the city’s future expansion and development.

CM Yogi added that Lucknow is advancing not only in infrastructure but also in emerging technologies and defense production. Thanks to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s efforts, the BrahMos missile project has been established in Lucknow, employing young engineers and technical experts from the state. Graduates from AKTU, engineering colleges, polytechnics, and ITIs are finding job opportunities in their own state.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the state government is also working towards developing Lucknow as a State Capital Region (SCR), which will accelerate the overall development of the capital and surrounding areas. He noted that this event is taking place at Jhulelal Vatika, a site that was once illegally occupied but has now been redeveloped for public use. The Jhulelal Mahotsav will also be held here starting March 19, coinciding with the New Year (Chaitra Shukla Pratipada).

He recalled that this location once hosted cricket matches between India and Pakistan. CM Yogi Adityanath remarked that while there is currently war in the Gulf and global economic challenges, India is progressing rapidly due to strong leadership.

He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh will not lag in this development journey and will play a crucial role as the “growth engine” of the country. The state government remains committed to developing Lucknow as a hub for connectivity, investment, technology, and modern infrastructure.

It is noteworthy that a significant step has been taken to ease traffic for the citizens of Lucknow. A 7-kilometer long road from Dali Ganj Pakka Bridge to Samta Mulak Chauraha has been constructed at a cost of ₹299 crores, which is part of the second phase of the Green Corridor project.

The commencement of this road will greatly facilitate commuting for the city’s residents and reduce traffic pressure. Additionally, the foundation stone for the third and fourth phases of the Green Corridor project, amounting to approximately ₹1,220 crores, has also been laid. In the future, a nearly 28-kilometer long Green Corridor will be established, connecting IIM Road, Pakka Bridge (Dali Ganj), Samta Mulak Chauraha, Pipra Ghat, Shaheed Path, and further to Kisan Path, fulfilling the long-cherished dream of the city’s residents.
