New Delhi, June 8: The Supreme Court has received a status report regarding the recent building collapse in the Saket area of Delhi. This report was submitted by an amicus curiae concerning illegal construction.
The report accuses the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of persistent negligence and oversight. It demands strict action against violations of building laws. The status report calls for comprehensive action against illegal constructions in Delhi, accountability for the building collapse, action against guilty officials, and compensation for the families of the deceased.
The amicus curiae appointed by the Supreme Court stated that the negligence of the MCD led to the building’s collapse in Saket, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.
The report urges the Supreme Court to mandate a structural audit of all buildings in Delhi. It also requests the court to question the MCD on how such illegal constructions were allowed to exist for so long. The report emphasizes the need to identify responsible officials and take action against them, as well as to provide a full report on compensation and actions taken to the court.
