New Delhi, August 10: Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that 534 children have been born in the Parsi community since 2014-15. The government has invested ₹37.43 crores in the ‘Jiyo Parsi’ scheme to stabilize the community’s population.
In a written response to a question, Rijiju expressed hope that the birth of over 500 children would help address the declining population of the Parsi community.
He noted that independent third-party evaluation studies have confirmed the scheme’s success in achieving its objectives.
Detailing the expenditures on the ‘Jiyo Parsi’ scheme, Rijiju mentioned that in the fiscal year 2025-26, ₹2.93 crores were allocated for health-related initiatives, ₹24 lakhs for medical support, and ₹29 lakhs for advocacy campaigns.
Funding for health-related initiatives has consistently increased over the years, with ₹2.53 crores in 2023-24 and ₹2.66 crores in 2024-25.
Since 2013, a total of 582 individuals from the Parsi community have received financial assistance for infertility treatments, childbirth, and postnatal care under the medical component of the scheme.
Additionally, since 2018-19, 1,055 individuals have benefited from the health-related segment of the scheme. Rijiju emphasized that efforts to raise awareness and increase access within the Parsi community are regularly conducted.
He mentioned that various workshops, registration drives, and bio-authentication sessions are organized to promote the scheme.
Information about the implementation of the ‘Jiyo Parsi’ scheme is disseminated monthly through major Parsi newspapers. Under this segment, beneficiaries do not receive direct financial aid.
