New Delhi, August 10: Julia Longbottom, the British Ambassador to Japan, has completed her tenure, marking a significant moment in the strengthening ties between the two nations. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi praised her contributions to enhancing the relationship during her time in office.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Takaichi stated, “Julia Longbottom is leaving her post as the British Ambassador to Japan after completing her term, and we had a meeting at the official residence.”
Takaichi highlighted the longstanding relationship between them, recalling how Longbottom shared her insights and expertise when she was the Minister in charge of economic security. This collaboration significantly aided the establishment of the ‘security clearance’ system related to economic security.
The Prime Minister noted that thanks to Longbottom’s dedicated service of over five years as Ambassador, the relationship between Japan and Britain has become closer and stronger than ever, described as a “robust global strategic partnership.” This year was particularly notable, with her support during former Prime Minister Starmer’s visit to Japan in January and Takaichi’s visit to Britain in June.
Additionally, through various regional visits and other initiatives, Longbottom has consistently worked to strengthen Japan-Britain relations across multiple sectors. Takaichi expressed his respect and appreciation for her efforts, wishing her all the best for the future. He hopes she remains healthy, happy, and successful upon her return to her home country.
