Tehran, August 10: Iran has characterized the recent defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan as “anti-American.” During a weekly press briefing on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that this development signals a shift in thinking among these nations.
Baghaei noted that the circumstances over the past two to three years have led regional countries to understand that security cannot be achieved through a false mediator.
In response to a question, he emphasized that Iran has no reason to be alarmed, citing the historical, religious, and civilizational ties with these countries.
According to IRNA, Baghaei remarked, “This development indicates that countries in the region have concluded that they cannot trust the security claims made by the United States and other external nations. They are attempting to explore alternative methods based on their own capabilities and perspectives.”
He added, “Any plan grounded in the geopolitical and historical realities of the region will be comprehensive and inclusive.”
On Friday, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed the “Mecca Joint Defense Pact.” The three nations acknowledged that this agreement extends beyond mere defense cooperation, aiming to elevate military and strategic alliances to new heights.
Under the pact, the three countries will conduct joint military exercises, share intelligence, enhance security coordination, and develop strategies to collectively address regional challenges.
When asked about an invitation for Pakistan’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to visit Pakistan, Baghaei stated, “The visit will occur when the right time comes.”
