Chennai, August 10: In a significant development in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attack case, the 27th accused has been apprehended at Chennai Airport. This incident is linked to the assault on ED officials who visited the home of Veena Vijayan, daughter of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan, for questioning regarding the CMRL Exlogic case.
The accused, Adarsh, had fled the country following the incident. He was arrested upon his return to Chennai Airport on Monday morning. A lookout notice had already been issued against him. A team from the museum police is en route to Chennai to take custody of Adarsh and bring him back to Kerala.
This arrest comes shortly after 25 individuals were granted bail in late May. The FIR named a total of 27 accused, with two still evading capture. Following Adarsh’s arrest, only one suspect remains at large, identified as Palayam Santosh, who is also believed to be abroad. The police are intensifying efforts to locate him and return him to Kerala.
The case revolves around the alleged attack on ED officials after they questioned Veena Vijayan about financial transactions between her IT company, Exlogic, and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL). This incident has sparked significant political controversy, with Pinarayi Vijayan facing criticism over the alleged assault on central agency officials.
In the aftermath of the May arrests, opposition leaders and their allies staged protests, while police maintained that the arrests were based on substantial evidence collected in the case. Following last week’s bail grants, the police now face the challenge of locating Santosh, the only remaining accused still on the run.
