Giridih, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Jharkhand are ramping up their efforts against corruption. On September 9, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Punit Kumar Gautam, a sub-inspector at the Giridih Cyber Police Station, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000.
The arrest came after a complaint was filed by Jivalal Mandal, who reported that Gautam was demanding the money in exchange for sending a case diary related to FIR number 24/26 to the court. Following the verification of the complaint, the ACB formed a team to take action.
On Wednesday, Mandal met Gautam as planned and handed over the bribe. As soon as the money changed hands, the ACB team apprehended Gautam. The team seized the bribe amount and took him into custody for further questioning. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
This incident follows another recent arrest by the ACB. On September 3, Harish Prajapati, a block program officer in Gumla district, was caught accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 for facilitating a government task. In late August, the CBI’s Ranchi Anti-Corruption Branch arrested three officials from the regional pay and accounts office for allegedly accepting ₹48,400 in bribes related to CISF personnel bills.
Earlier, on August 20, the ACB team in Jamshedpur apprehended Manish Kumar, a sub-inspector at the Bandgaon police station, for accepting ₹15,000 to favor a complainant in a case. These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by authorities to combat corruption in the region.
