Strengthening Community-Centric Policing in Jammu and Kashmir with 4,000 New Constables

Srinagar, May 10: In a significant move to enhance community-centric policing and improve professional capabilities, over 4,000 new constables are being deployed in technical roles in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative includes 600 female candidates.

DGP Nalin Prabhat stated on Sunday that these newly recruited constables represent a new generation of educated and technically skilled youth. They are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the force in the coming years.

During a ceremony at the Armed Police Complex, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presented appointment letters to the new constables. Addressing the recruits, the DGP mentioned that many of them hold B.Tech and M.Tech degrees, which will be utilized in specific technical roles within the force.

He noted that over 550,000 applications were received for these positions, which were advertised in 2024. Many selected candidates are graduates, postgraduates, and holders of B.Tech and M.Tech degrees.

The DGP emphasized that the identification of highly educated recruits will occur during training, and their expertise will be leveraged in specialized and technical areas related to the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), and other technology-based policing systems.

He remarked that the recruitment of educated youth reflects their dedication to patriotism and national service. There is an increasing need to strengthen community-centric policing and enhance professional capabilities within the organization. He referred to the newly recruited constables as the backbone of the force, stating that the police uniform symbolizes discipline, integrity, loyalty, courage, sacrifice, and commitment to public service.

The DGP urged the recruits to make the most of their training period and learn every aspect of policing with honesty and dedication. He added that unlike many other police organizations in the country, Jammu and Kashmir Police operates in unique and challenging circumstances, where policing extends far beyond traditional law and order duties.

He advised the recruits that their challenges are distinct and their responsibilities are extensive. The training process will prepare them not only physically but also mentally and professionally to effectively tackle these challenges.
