Kolkata, August 29: The West Bengal government has announced a new transfer allowance formula for government employees relocating within the state. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari via a statement on social media.
The new transfer allowance formula, which replaces the decades-old system, is designed to provide comprehensive transfer and packing grants to state employees. According to Adhikari, financial relief will be given as a one-time grant, capped at either ₹50,000 or 80% of the employee’s basic salary, whichever is lower. Employees will not need to submit any receipts to receive this allowance.
In his statement, the Chief Minister detailed the scope of the new transfer allowance formula. Employees transferring more than 30 kilometers from their current posting will be entitled to the full proposed amount. Conversely, those moving less than 30 kilometers will receive only one-third of the total allowance.
Adhikari further noted that the new transfer scheme will also apply to retired employees relocating to their ancestral homes. He emphasized the West Bengal government’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of its dedicated state employees, who work tirelessly for the people of West Bengal. He expressed satisfaction that the state cabinet has approved a simplified and improved overall transfer and packing grant system to replace the outdated allowance system.
State government employees, especially those nearing retirement, have welcomed this decision, stating that the previous transfer allowance was insufficient to cover even a small portion of relocation costs.
