Gandhinagar, August 29: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a special event was held at Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar on Friday. Girls from the SOS Children’s Village in Kutch-Bhuj tied rakhi to Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and had the opportunity to meet him.
During the Raksha Bandhan ceremony, the girls presented the governor with handmade rakhis. The governor engaged with the children, discussing their education, future plans, and life goals.
As a token of appreciation, the girls gifted the governor a painting they created. They also informed him about the SOS organization’s efforts in providing education, care, and holistic development for children.
The organization supports underprivileged children by offering guidance and assistance to help them continue their education in schools and colleges.
According to information shared during the event, the SOS organization currently operates around 32 centers across 21 states in the country. The Kutch-Bhuj center is a key initiative that aids children through education, care, and various developmental activities.
Governor Devvrat praised the organization’s work, stating, “The effort to advance children in education, values, self-confidence, and self-reliance is crucial for improving the future of society.”
The program also highlighted the need to boost children’s self-confidence and foster their independence alongside formal education. The governor inquired about the girls’ academic progress and aspirations, while the children shared their experiences.
Notably, the SOS Children’s Village in Bhuj was established in 2001 following a devastating earthquake that left many children without parental care.
Currently, the organization not only provides care and education but also runs programs related to youth development, vocational training, and family empowerment.
At the end of the Raksha Bandhan celebration, the governor wished all the girls well and hoped for their bright futures. The event concluded with a discussion between the governor and the children, along with a presentation of their paintings.
