Patna, August 29: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Union Minister and National President of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Chirag Paswan, celebrated the festival at his residence in Patna.
His sisters tied Rakhi on his wrist, and Shambhavi Chaudhary, the youngest MP from the party representing Samastipur, also participated in the ritual. Shambhavi referred to Chirag as her elder brother and the party’s national leader, expressing her annual tradition of tying Rakhi to him.
She shared that she has always received love, affection, blessings, and protection from him, wishing for his success on both national and international platforms. Shambhavi emphasized that some bonds transcend blood relations, stating that her relationship with Chirag is one such connection that will remain unbreakable.
Chirag Paswan extended heartfelt Raksha Bandhan wishes to all brothers and sisters across India and the world. He expressed his condolences for those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal, noting that this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in both India and Nepal.
During a media interaction, Chirag reiterated his strong opposition to any proposals for reviewing the reservation system. He asserted that those advocating for a review are ultimately pushing towards its abolition.
Describing reservation as a vital tool for social justice, Chirag stated that the Constitution provides a mechanism for marginalized communities to integrate into the mainstream. He emphasized that reservation is a constitutional right, not a charity.
He further insisted that there should be no discussions regarding the review of reservation and warned that any changes to the system could provoke widespread public backlash. Chirag criticized those advocating for changes to the current reservation framework, arguing that such actions could undermine the principles of social justice.
These comments from Chirag come amid differences among NDA leaders on this issue. Union Minister and President of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), Jitan Ram Manjhi, has called for a review of the reservation system and advocated for sub-categorization within Scheduled Castes, effectively proposing a ‘quota within a quota.’
Bihar Minister and HAM leader Santosh Kumar Suman has also spoken in favor of reviewing the reservation system, highlighting the emerging debate within the alliance on this matter.
