Mumbai, August 29: The controversy surrounding Manoj Jarange Patil’s proposed protest in Mumbai is escalating. Lawyer Gunaratna Sadavarte has filed a complaint at the Azad Maidan police station, urging the police to deny permission for Jarange’s movement and to take legal action against him. Sadavarte emphasized that as the economic capital of the country, Mumbai should not allow any protest that disrupts the city’s order.
Sadavarte accused Jarange of previously making threats to damage railway tracks, airports, and target the Chief Minister‘s residence. Such language should be taken seriously, and action must be taken under relevant criminal laws. He noted that during past protests, damage was caused to police vehicles and other government property. If Jarange is found involved in such incidents, he should be charged and arrested. Furthermore, Sadavarte insisted that permission for the proposed protest should not be granted.
He mentioned that Jarange had communicated his intention to come to Mumbai through a letter. No individual should be allowed to disrupt law and order in Mumbai at their whim. Sadavarte called for legal action against Jarange under applicable laws.
Sadavarte also alleged that political interests are driving Jarange’s protest. He targeted certain leaders associated with Maharashtra’s opposition politics, claiming they are creating a political atmosphere regarding the non-Maratha backgrounds of the Chief Minister and ministers.
Additionally, Sadavarte sharply reacted to Amit Thackeray’s alleged comments regarding Hindi-speaking auto and taxi drivers. He stated that Mumbai is not anyone’s private property and that no driver should be harassed based on language. He supported Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s stance that no one should be troubled in the name of language. Sadavarte asserted that all residents of Mumbai should be treated equally under the law, and any acts of violence or coercion against individuals will not be tolerated. He warned that if any auto or taxi driver is assaulted, strict legal action should follow.
