In response, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a crucial advisory urging citizens to monitor their hydration levels. They have introduced a urine color chart to help individuals easily assess their hydration status.

Dehydration becomes a significant concern during the summer months, particularly among the youth. The ministry recommends covering your head and face when outdoors, wearing sunglasses, and drinking water frequently. It is best to hydrate before feeling thirsty. Alongside the urine color chart, the ministry has provided guidance on how to interpret it.

1 to 2: Light yellow or nearly clear urine, odorless. This indicates you are well-hydrated. Continue drinking water.
3 to 4: Slightly darker yellow urine. This means you are mildly dehydrated. Drink a glass of water immediately.
5 to 6: Medium to dark yellow urine. This is a sign of dehydration. You should drink 2-3 glasses of water right away.
7 to 8: Very dark yellow or brown urine with a strong odor. This indicates severe dehydration. Drink a significant amount of water immediately and consult a doctor if necessary.

Health experts note that certain foods, such as beets, vitamin supplements, or some medications can also alter urine color. Therefore, use this chart as a guide. If your urine remains dark or you experience other health issues, seek medical advice promptly.

The ministry appeals to everyone to consume plenty of water, coconut water, buttermilk, lemonade, and fruit juices during the hot season. Wear loose, light-colored clothing when going outside. Special attention should be given to children and the elderly, as they are more susceptible to dehydration.
