
Mumbai, June 24: A tragic incident occurred on a moving train between Andheri and Borivali stations in Mumbai, where a 22-year-old passenger was fatally stabbed. The altercation reportedly began over the closing of the coach door during heavy rainfall. During the dispute, the assailant allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen, inflicting severe injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Mayank Lohar, who worked as a salesman for a private company in Andheri. At the time of the incident, he was returning home from work.
According to police reports, Mayank Lohar and the suspect were traveling in the first-class coach of train number 90663, which departed from Churchgate at 10:05 PM on Tuesday. Amidst the heavy rain, Mayank requested the suspect to close the coach door, leading to a heated argument.
During the confrontation, the assailant reportedly produced a sharp weapon and stabbed Mayank in the abdomen, causing critical injuries. Police stated that before the train stopped at Borivali station at 11:04 PM, the suspect jumped off the moving train near platform 6 and fled the station premises.
Railway officials confirmed that upon learning of the incident, the emergency response system was activated. Within minutes of the train’s arrival, RPF and GRP personnel reached the coach to assist the injured passenger.
A stretcher, porter, and medical team were summoned, and Mayank Lohar was extricated from the coach. He was taken to the emergency medical room at Borivali station at 11:22 PM, where doctors examined him. Subsequently, he was transported by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police have formed multiple teams to identify and apprehend the assailant. These teams are reviewing CCTV footage from railway stations and gathering information from passengers who may have witnessed the attack.
