Bengaluru, August 27: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of the Art of Living, expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal on Thursday amid the devastating floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border. He urged the public to pray for those affected by the disaster.
In a statement, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar noted that nature’s fury has led to a significant catastrophe in Nepal, a region that has long been a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims.
He highlighted that many individuals had traveled to this area for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. Expressing concern over the reports of fatalities due to the disaster, he said, “Let us all show solidarity with the people of Nepal, the affected families, and the Nepalese government.” He prayed for strength for those who have lost their loved ones.
He expressed hope that Nepal would soon return to normalcy and called for increased efforts to protect the environment, particularly in the Himalayan regions.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has initiated a campaign to gather information about residents stranded in areas around Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region due to the sudden floods and related disruptions.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated on social media, “The safety and welfare of every Kannada-speaking individual is our top priority. In light of the sudden floods and disruptions at the Nepal-Tibet border, the Karnataka government is working with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies to identify and assist those from Karnataka stranded in Nepal or the Tibet Autonomous Region.”
The Chief Minister’s office has requested details from stranded individuals, their families, and tourist operators through an online form. This information will aid the state government in coordinating rescue, evacuation, and other necessary assistance efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian embassy in Nepal, and the Indian embassy in Beijing.
Individuals can provide information through the government’s Google form or contact the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) for assistance. They can reach the SEOC at 1070 or 080-22253707. Assistance can also be obtained via email.
The Karnataka government has urged those with information about stranded individuals to share details promptly to ensure timely assistance in coordination with relevant authorities.
