Prayagraj, August 30: The water levels of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers continue to rise in Prayagraj, leading to increased flooding in the Sangam area. Amidst this rising water, the famous Hanuman Temple has seen Ganges water enter its sanctum sanctorum. This has resulted in a natural abhishek of Lord Hanuman by Mother Ganga.
A video has surfaced showing the Ganges water flowing down the temple steps towards the sanctum. Reports indicate that heavy rainfall in Nepal and ongoing precipitation in the Himalayan regions have contributed to the rising water levels of the Ganges over the past few days. This situation is also affecting cities along the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, including Varanasi, Buxar, Patna, and Munger, where the river has overflowed its usual banks.
Due to the rising water levels in Prayagraj, the Ganges has reached the Hanuman Temple, prompting the temple doors to be closed after the water entered the sanctum. As long as the Ganges water remains in the sanctum, devotees will be unable to have direct darshan of the reclining Hanuman.
However, devotees are still visiting the smaller Hanuman Temple located outside the main temple complex for worship and prayers. Despite the water entering the main temple, priests have continued their rituals. There is a palpable atmosphere of excitement and faith among the devotees regarding this natural phenomenon.
Visitors to the temple expressed that they came to see the larger Hanuman but were instead witnesses to a divine abhishek performed by Mother Ganga. Many described this as a remarkable and spiritually significant sight. They noted that every year, when the Ganges water rises, Mother Ganga bathes the reclining Hanuman. The natural abhishek has drawn crowds to the Sangam area, eager to witness this unique event.
Authorities are closely monitoring the rising water levels. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the increasing levels of the Ganges and Yamuna.
