New Delhi, August 27: A total of 21 Indian citizens have been rescued from Timure, Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced this on Thursday, along with a list of the rescued individuals.
The MEA shared on the social media platform X that all 21 individuals are from Tamil Nadu and were on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar. The names of those rescued include: Shivaranjani Muthunathan, Karpagam Rajmohan, Maran Govindasamy, Shanti Maran, Muthukumaresan Ramalingam, Navu Kabirdas, Vijaybhavaneshwari Vishwanathan, Maithili Muthukumaresan, Tyagarajan Rathinam, Kirubagari Balasubramaniam, Vallinayaki Shivakumar, Sathiya Jayaraman, Thirumavalavan Govindarasu, Kanagasabai Natesapillai, Radhai Kanagasabai, Rathinakumar Kunchithapatham, Punguzhali Ponnambalam, Pazhaniyappan Maikaperumal, Kalimuthi Pazhaniyappan, and Raghunathan Muniraj.
According to the MEA, the list of rescued Indians was compiled by 1 PM on August 27, 2026.
During a media briefing on Thursday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We have been unable to contact 288 Indians in Nepal. Among them, 73 are working on the Trishuli-1 power project. So far, 21 Indians have been safely rescued. We are also in continuous contact with around 200 Indians stranded in Tibet.”
He added that India will continue to provide all possible assistance to address the situation caused by flash floods in Nepal. In response to Nepal’s request, India is sending relief materials and a Bailey bridge. The Ministry has established a 24-hour control room, and helplines have been activated at the Indian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing.
Jaiswal also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Prime Minister of Nepal to express condolences and assure all possible support.
The death toll from the flash floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday morning has reached 270, as reported by the Nepal police through social media posts.
