New Delhi, August 27: The Delhi Government’s Minister for Industries, Food and Supply, and Environment, Forests and Wildlife, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, held a meeting on Thursday with MLA Raj Kumar Bhatia from the Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency. The discussion focused on various issues related to industrial infrastructure, environmental protection, waste management, and the expansion of green areas in the Adarsh Nagar assembly region.
Senior officials from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), representatives from the Rajasthan Industrial Area in Jahangirpuri, and officials from the Forest and Food Supply Departments were present. The Rajasthan Industrial Area, a significant hub for small and medium enterprises, workshops, light manufacturing, and wholesale trade, was the focal point for discussions on infrastructure development and maintenance.
While reviewing the road and rainwater drainage projects being undertaken by DSIIDC in the Rajasthan Industrial Area, Sirsa instructed officials to ensure that all infrastructure work is sustainable, long-lasting, and adheres to approved designs and technical standards. He emphasized that public funds are being utilized for these infrastructure projects, and any compromise on quality is unacceptable. “Our goal is not just to complete the work but to create infrastructure that remains durable and functions smoothly for years,” he stated. Proper audits should be ensured at both design and implementation stages.
Sirsa also directed officials to develop an effective system for the regular cleaning and maintenance of rainwater drainage channels. He stressed that wastewater from industrial areas must be managed through scientifically sound methods, and its connection to the rainwater drainage system should only occur under scientifically designed arrangements. Adequate chambers should be established at inlet and outlet points to facilitate inspection and monitoring.
Addressing environmental concerns related to industrial areas, Sirsa instructed relevant departments, including the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), to take strict action against polluting industries and unscientific waste disposal practices. He particularly expressed concern over activities like wire burning, which can lead to severe air pollution and environmental damage. “Delhi’s industrial development cannot come at the cost of the environment. Industries must comply with established environmental standards, and practices like open burning of wires and other unscientific waste disposal methods will not be tolerated,” he asserted. The DPCC is expected to ensure effective monitoring and take strict action wherever violations are found.
The minister also reviewed plans for expanding green areas in the assembly constituency. Senior officials from the Forest Department were present during the discussions, and it was decided that a survey of available green belt areas would be conducted jointly by Forest Department officials and representatives from local associations. Based on the survey, a planting campaign will be planned and implemented in suitable locations.
Sirsa stated that the development of industrial areas should go hand in hand with environmental improvements and public services that benefit the community. He instructed all relevant departments to coordinate with local MLAs and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of decisions made during the meeting and to address local issues in a timely manner.
“Our approach is clear—better infrastructure, clean industries, robust green areas, and efficient public services must progress together,” said Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. “Such assembly-focused reviews help us identify grassroots problems and ensure that relevant departments deliver tangible and effective results for the public.”
