
Bristol, June 23: Captain Chamari Attapattu led Sri Lanka to a commanding victory against Ireland in the 20th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, held at County Ground on Tuesday. Attapattu’s unbeaten century helped Sri Lanka secure a 9-wicket win, keeping their hopes alive for advancing to the next round.
In Group B, Sri Lanka stands fourth with two wins out of four matches. Meanwhile, Scotland and Ireland have been eliminated from the title race. England tops the group, followed closely by the West Indies, both having won all three of their initial matches. New Zealand is in third place with two wins from four matches.
Batting first after losing the toss, Ireland managed to score 130 runs for the loss of five wickets. They struggled early, losing three wickets for just 19 runs. However, Leah Paul formed a crucial partnership with captain Gaby Lewis, adding 66 runs for the fourth wicket off 59 balls.
Paul scored 20 runs off 27 balls before returning to the pavilion. Lewis then added 28 runs with Alice Tector for the fifth wicket. Lewis ended her innings with 59 runs off 50 balls, including eight boundaries. Alice contributed an unbeaten 28 runs off 21 balls. From the Sri Lankan side, Mithali Ayodhya, Sugandhika Kumari, Chamari Attapattu, and Nilakshika Silva each took one wicket.
In response, Sri Lanka chased down the target in just 15.3 overs. The opening partnership between Chamari Attapattu and Imesha Dulani provided a solid foundation, scoring 98 runs off 72 balls.
Imesha scored 20 runs from 27 balls before departing. Attapattu then built a 36-run unbeaten partnership with Nilakshika Silva, leading the team to an easy victory. Attapattu finished with an impressive 106 runs off 61 balls, including two sixes and 17 fours, while Silva remained not out on 4 runs from 5 balls. Orla Prendergast was the standout bowler for Ireland, taking one wicket for 22 runs.
