Moradabad, February 11: ST Hasan, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, has voiced strong opposition to the central government’s new guidelines regarding the national song “Vande Mataram.” He stated, “Muslims cannot recite Vande Mataram; our children will remain silent.”
In a conversation in Moradabad, Hasan emphasized the rich cultural tapestry of India, describing it as a land of love and unity, where people of various faiths coexist. He raised concerns about the song’s religious implications, noting that it involves the worship of the land, which contradicts Islamic teachings that allow worship only of Allah.
Hasan pointed out that the Supreme Court has made it clear that no one should be forced to recite anything against their beliefs. He highlighted ongoing issues where Muslims are coerced into chanting “Jai Shri Ram,” leading to legal repercussions. “Why are such actions being taken that threaten the harmony of our nation and weaken it? We must strengthen our love and unity, not succumb to divisive politics,” he asserted.
Regarding the new guidelines, which stipulate that “Vande Mataram” should be sung for 3 minutes and 10 seconds, Hasan reiterated his stance. “We cannot recite it; Muslims cannot recite it. Our children will remain silent. This is a form of disrespect. While we stand for the national anthem, forcing ‘Vande Mataram’ is a different matter. Tomorrow, similar coercion could arise over other issues. India does not belong to anyone alone; it belongs to all of us. We will oppose anything that is not permitted in Islam, whether in government schools or madrasas.”
