Born on June 7, 1981, in Mumbai, Amrita was raised in a traditional Konkani family. After completing her early education at a school in Andheri, she began her graduation in Psychology at Sophia College. However, the world of modeling beckoned her, prompting her to leave her studies to pursue a career in that field.

Initially, Amrita appeared in several advertisements. Gradually, her recognition grew, leading to opportunities in music videos. Her confidence and ease in front of the camera quickly endeared her to the audience. During this time, filmmakers took notice, opening the doors of Bollywood for her.

In 2002, Amrita made her Bollywood debut with the film ‘Ab Ke Baras.’ Her performance in the very first film captured the attention of many. Following this, her career continued to flourish. The 2003 release ‘Ishq Vishk’ marked a significant turning point in her career. In this film, she starred alongside Shahid Kapoor, and their pairing was well-received by audiences. She went on to work in films like ‘Masti,’ ‘Main Hoon Na,’ ‘Wah Life Ho Toh Aisi,’ ‘Shikhar,’ and ‘Pyaare Mohan.’ However, her most memorable film remains ‘Vivah,’ where she portrayed the character of ‘Poonam.’ Her simplicity, family values, and natural acting won the hearts of many, and even today, she is fondly remembered as ‘Poonam.’

Amrita did not limit herself to Hindi films; she also ventured into Telugu cinema, appearing alongside actor Mahesh Babu in the film ‘Atithi,’ which was well-received by audiences. On the personal front, Amrita dated radio jockey Anmol Sood for a long time. The couple married in a simple ceremony in 2016. Amrita is now a mother to a son named Veer. After her marriage, she took a step back from films to prioritize her family.
