Madhuri Dixit Challenges Patriarchal Norms in New Film Maa Behen

Mumbai, June 6: Actress Madhuri Dixit is thrilled about her recently released Netflix drama crime-comedy film, ‘Maa Behen.’ While busy with promotions, she addressed the differing societal perspectives on women and men, questioning patriarchal thinking. Madhuri emphasized that society still adheres to double standards in matters of love and relationships.

In an interview, she stated, “This is a patriarchal society. It has always been this way. If a man has a girlfriend, he is called a ‘Casanova’ or ‘Romeo.’ However, if a woman does the same, she is criticized and viewed negatively.”

The actress mentioned that her film ‘Maa Behen’ challenges these outdated traditions and norms. The characters portrayed in the film are flawed, complex, and reflect real-life situations.

The film features strong female characters who break traditional rules. Madhuri stressed that every woman deserves to live with respect and dignity.

She explained, “In this film, we have broken every rule set by society, and we enjoyed doing it. The characters are very complicated, yet incredibly real. You will feel a connection with them.”

Directed by Suresh Triveni, ‘Maa Behen’ stars Madhuri as a mother named Rekha. The story revolves around Rekha, who is already facing numerous challenges when a dead body is discovered in her kitchen. Along with her two daughters, responsible Jaya and outspoken Sushma, she quickly devises plans to handle the crisis, lies, and conceals the truth from their neighbors.

Alongside Madhuri, the film features Trupti Dimri, Dhara Durga, Ravi Kishan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh, and Shardul Bhardwaj in significant roles. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
