Chennai, June 6: Sports analyst turned actor Harishankar Narayanan has made his debut in Malayalam cinema with the film ‘Kattlan.’ In this movie, he plays one of the three main antagonists, ‘Nelson,’ alongside star Anthony Varghese. His performance has received acclaim from both audiences and critics.
Harishankar shared an intriguing story about how he landed this role. He revealed, “The film’s casting director, Abu Valayamakulam, watched my web series ‘Label’ and messaged me on Instagram. He recommended my name to the makers of ‘Kattlan.’ I was both excited and nervous as this was my Malayalam debut.”
After some time, Harishankar traveled to Kerala to meet the casting director. During their meeting, he was informed that he had not been selected for a role. Nevertheless, he expressed his gratitude. Before leaving, they took a selfie together, which the casting director later posted on his profile.
With a smile, Harishankar recounted, “The producer saw that selfie and decided to cast me for the role of Nelson. Just like that, an ordinary selfie changed my fate.”
Previously, Harishankar worked as a sports analyst for the IPL team Mumbai Indians. He is also known for his roles in the 2025 film ‘Retro’ and this year’s ‘Sirai.’ His work in the Hotstar web series ‘Label’ was well-received.
‘Kattlan’ is a pan-Indian action thriller directed by Paul George and produced by Sharif Muhammad of Cube Entertainments. The film features Anthony Varghese (Pepe) and Rajisha Vijayan in lead roles. The story is penned by Paul George, Joby Varghese, and Jero Jacob, with music by Ajanish Loknath and choreography by Sharif.
