New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The son of a building owner, Mahesh, is set to appear in Patiala House Court today following a tragic building collapse in South Delhi’s Saty Niketan. His police custody ends today after being remanded for two days earlier this week.
On Monday, the court ordered Mahesh to be held for police questioning. His parents, Urmila and Hariram, were sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday. According to Delhi police, Mahesh was responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the building on behalf of his parents. The building was leased to a PG operator, “Hostel Days,” in August 2025.
In a related development, police arrested a labor contractor from Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, who was working on repairs in the building’s basement at the time of the incident. Initial inquiries revealed that repairs were underway on the basement floor due to accumulated debris from recent rains. Additionally, renovations were being conducted on the ground floor to expand the commercial space.
The five-story building, which operated as a boys’ PG, collapsed around 1:30 PM on Sunday while several students were present. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.
In response to the collapse, the Delhi government has ordered the demolition of a neighboring building deemed unsafe. The Chief Minister‘s Office announced that, under the directive of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has been instructed to demolish the dilapidated structure near the accident site for public safety.
