Ayodhya, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Political and religious tensions are rising in Ayodhya over Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s proposed ‘Sanatan Swabhimaan Yatra.’ Local saints linked to Hanumangarhi and Tapasvi Chawni have expressed strong opposition, labeling the initiative as a political maneuver. They accuse Singh and the Congress party of attempting to exploit Sanatan Dharma for electoral gain.
Mahant Raju Das of Hanumangarhi temple criticized Singh’s journey, stating that the Congress party has historically opposed Sanatan culture, Hinduism, and Hindutva. He believes that this so-called ‘Swabhimaan Yatra‘ is merely an attempt to mislead the public rather than a genuine shift in political ideology.
Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya of Tapasvi Chawni also condemned the journey, targeting the opposition regarding recent allegations of financial irregularities linked to the Ram temple. He highlighted that legal actions have been taken against those involved and that the funds have been returned. He firmly stated that attempts to tarnish the reputation of Sanatan Dharma are unacceptable.
Deveshacharya Maharaj, a priest at Hanumangarhi, criticized Singh, claiming that those lacking self-respect should not attempt to lead a ‘Swabhimaan Yatra,’ as it deceives society.
Swami Narendracharya Maharaj directly labeled the journey as a political issue. He noted that if the yatra were related to the inauguration of the Ram Janmabhoomi or a religious event, it would be welcomed by the locals. However, he asserted that turning the alleged theft of donations into a political issue is unacceptable to the saint community.
Swami Narendracharya further alleged that Singh’s yatra aims to prepare a political ground ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He remarked that Singh is promoting his political interests, while the Congress party’s chances of success in Uttar Pradesh remain very slim.
Digvijay Singh announced the ‘Sanatan Swabhimaan Yatra’ to protest against alleged exploitation in the name of religion and the faith of devotees. The journey is set to commence on October 20, starting from Ujjain and concluding in Ayodhya.
