Jaipur, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The second phase of Rajasthan’s urban local body elections is scheduled for tomorrow, September 11. The State Election Commission is advancing these elections under the ‘One State, One Election’ initiative.
The first phase, held on September 9, took place across 162 urban local bodies and saw a peaceful turnout of 76.41%. Elections are being conducted for a total of 309 urban local bodies, which include 10 municipal corporations, 47 municipal councils, and 252 municipalities, spread over two phases.
In the first phase, voting occurred in 5,393 wards. Out of 5,752,280 registered voters, 4,395,488 cast their ballots. This phase included elections for four municipal corporations, 27 municipal councils, and 131 municipalities, with a total of 7,683 polling stations set up and 20,623 candidates contesting.
The State Election Commission reported that voting for member positions across all 162 urban local bodies was completed peacefully. Arnod municipality in Pratapgarh recorded the highest voter turnout at an impressive 91.98%.
Conversely, the lowest turnout was noted in the Bhilwara municipal corporation, which comprises 70 wards with 296,682 registered voters. Here, only 189,390 voters participated, resulting in a turnout of 63.84%.
The first phase also included 73 newly formed urban local bodies, marking their inaugural elections. The remaining 89 bodies had previously held regular elections, with the last recorded turnout at 74.76%. The current first-phase turnout of 76.41% surpasses that of the previous elections in these 89 urban local bodies.
With the conclusion of the first phase, the focus now shifts to the upcoming voting on September 11. The State Election Commission has completed preparations for the second phase, ensuring all necessary arrangements are in place for the urban local bodies involved.
