New Delhi, June 10: In cricket, achieving a ‘five-wicket haul’ is a dream for any bowler. When this feat occurs during the T20 World Cup, it becomes even more remarkable. Here, we highlight six female bowlers who have accomplished this memorable achievement in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Priyanka Roy: Priyanka is the first Indian player to secure a ‘five-wicket haul’ in the Women’s T20 World Cup. On June 13, 2009, she took five wickets for just 16 runs in 3.5 overs against Pakistan in Taunton. After restricting Pakistan to 75 runs, India won the match by five wickets.
Julie Hunter: The Australian fast bowler achieved this milestone on October 5, 2012, in Colombo against the West Indies. She bowled 3.2 overs, conceding only 22 runs while taking five wickets. Australia set a score of 115/7, and thanks to Hunter’s exceptional bowling, the West Indies were bowled out for just 87 runs.
Sune Luus: The South African bowler achieved a remarkable feat on March 23, 2016, against Ireland. She took five wickets for only 8 runs in four overs. Batting first, South Africa scored 156 runs while losing five wickets, and then restricted Ireland to 89/9.
Deandra Dottin: The West Indian fast bowler accomplished this on November 9, 2018, against Bangladesh. She took five wickets for just 5 runs in 3.4 overs. Despite scoring only 106/8, Dottin’s bowling led to Bangladesh being dismissed for a mere 46 runs.
Ashleigh Gardner: The Australian bowler achieved this on February 11, 2023, against New Zealand. She took five wickets for just 12 runs in three overs. Australia scored 173/9, while New Zealand could only manage 76 runs in response.
