New York, August 29: Madison Square Garden (MSG) will host RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for a speech this Saturday. This iconic arena holds immense significance in politics, entertainment, sports, and religion.
Bhagwat will take the stage at the same venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first public event in the U.S. after winning the elections in 2014. He was in the city for a high-level United Nations meeting.
The arena, with a capacity of 22,000, was filled to the brim as supporters and those eager to learn about this leader, who achieved a remarkable victory in India, gathered to listen and cheer him on.
MSG also witnessed former President Donald Trump’s grand return to the city in 2024, amidst legal challenges. Notable figures like Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush were nominated here during their party conventions.
The Republican Party held its national convention at MSG in 2004, while the Democratic Party did so in 1976, 1980, and 1992.
Located in the heart of New York City, just ten blocks south of Times Square, this 76,000-square-foot arena is an architectural marvel. It is built above Pennsylvania Station, known as ‘Penn,’ which is the busiest transit hub in the U.S., connecting long-distance trains, commuter rail, and the subway.
MSG is renowned for hosting high-profile events, where political rallies and presidential appearances at sports matches occur. The venue is known for its stringent security measures, sometimes employing facial recognition systems to identify and process attendees.
The arena can quickly transform its setup – from an ice rink for hockey, a basketball court, a political stage, to a gallery for religious performances, a boxing or wrestling ring, and even a concert stage or wedding venue.
Recently, MSG made headlines when singer Taylor Swift married NFL player Travis Kelce there in July, surrounded by thousands of fans. It is also the permanent home ground for two major sports teams: the New York Rangers in ice hockey and the NBA champions, the New York Knicks.
Numerous famous artists have performed at MSG, including John Lennon, George Harrison, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Led Zeppelin, and the Spice Girls.
