
New Delhi, August 29: On the occasion of National Sports Day, a program themed ‘One Hour on the Playing Field’ was launched at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was also present at the event, where both ministers were seen playing cricket.
Speaking to the media, Minister Mandaviya stated, “Today marks the 121st birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand. We celebrate his birthday as National Sports Day. On this occasion, a one-hour program will take place across the country to promote the Fit India initiative. Young people nationwide have gone to their nearest fields to engage in sports activities.”
He added, “I am pleased to see the country changing under PM Modi’s leadership. The nation is progressing. For India to thrive, our youth and society must be fit. We should dedicate at least one hour each week to physical activity to maintain our fitness.”
Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasized the importance of the Khelo India program, saying, “It is crucial. Coming from villages, we witness its impact in rural and small-town areas. Khelo India has made a significant difference. Today is special as we commemorate Major Dhyan Chand’s 121st birth anniversary. We pledge to dedicate one hour to sports.”
Additionally, on National Sports Day, the North East Delhi Police organized the ‘North East Delhi Run’ at the Milkha Singh Mini Stadium near Welcome Police Station.
Additional DCP Sandeep Lamba mentioned, “Under the Fit India initiative, we hold weekly events every Sunday at different police stations. This time, we organized it a day earlier due to National Sports Day.”
