Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) continued its questioning of Telangana’s former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), on Sunday at his residence in Hyderabad in connection with the phone tapping case.
Amid tight security arrangements, SIT officials arrived around 3 pm at KCR’s home located in Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills. The officers were seen carrying several documents believed to be related to the investigation. Reports suggest that KCR was questioned based on statements from other accused individuals.
The interrogation took place in a room on the second floor of KCR’s residence. His son and BRS working president, K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), along with other family members, were present at the house during the questioning.
The police established a strong security perimeter around KCR’s residence to prevent any crowd gathering. Barricades were set up on all routes leading to Nandi Nagar. The security was enhanced anticipating the presence of BRS leaders and supporters rallying in KCR’s favour. The party has alleged that the Congress government is conducting the interrogation out of political vendetta.
Earlier, following the issuance of a second notice by the SIT, KCR travelled from his Eravalli village in Siddipet district to Hyderabad, where party leaders welcomed him warmly.
SIT had summoned KCR for questioning on Friday, January 30, asking him to remain available at any location within Hyderabad. However, KCR requested a different date citing his involvement in municipal elections. He also requested the inquiry to be conducted at his Eravalli residence, which the SIT rejected.
Subsequently, on the night of January 30, SIT officials affixed a notice at KCR’s Hyderabad residence instructing him to be available for questioning on Sunday in the city. In his response to the SIT, KCR confirmed his availability for interrogation at 3 pm on Sunday at his Nandi Nagar home.
KCR also expressed that the manner in which the second notice was issued—by sticking it to the house wall—would not hold legal ground. Nevertheless, he clarified his intention to cooperate with the SIT as a responsible citizen, former Chief Minister, and leader of the opposition in the Telangana Assembly.
KCR is the most senior BRS leader to be questioned in the phone tapping case so far. The case involves allegations of phone tapping on political opponents, businessmen, journalists, and even judges during the BRS government’s tenure.
