New Delhi, June 30: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has uncovered a shocking conspiracy involving the wife of a businessman and a member of the notorious Gogi gang. The duo was arrested for allegedly plotting to extort ₹50 lakh from the businessman, followed by a plan to murder his mother and attack him.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sapna Jain, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, and 29-year-old Rajat from Sonipat, Haryana. The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP/Vivek Tyagi, led by Inspectors Sanjay Kumar Gupta and Pankaj Chauhan.
According to police reports, on June 14, the businessman, who operates in wholesale trade in Laxmi Nagar, received calls and messages from an international number. The caller claimed to be a member of the Gogi gang and demanded ₹50 lakh, threatening to kill the businessman and his family if the money was not paid.
The caller sent photos of the businessman’s shop and home, instilling fear in him and his family. An FIR was registered at the Laxmi Nagar police station on June 18, and the investigation was later handed over to the Special Cell’s New Delhi range.
During the investigation, the Special Cell utilized human intelligence and technical analysis to identify Rajat, a seasoned criminal with multiple cases against him, including robbery and violations of the Arms Act. He was also found to be in contact with several active members of the Gogi gang and the infamous gangster Rohit Moi, who is currently incarcerated.
On June 25, police took Rajat into custody from Sonipat for questioning. Shocking revelations emerged during the examination of his mobile phone. It was discovered that he was in contact with a criminal based in the United States who was involved in extortion, as well as with the victim’s wife, Sapna Jain, and her sister.
During interrogation, Rajat confessed that Sapna Jain had tasked him with extorting money from her husband. The plan involved threatening the husband for a large sum and subsequently murdering his mother to carry out an attack on him. Police stated that Sapna Jain was continuously providing Rajat with information about her husband’s routine and other critical details to execute the plot. Following Rajat’s confession, police arrested Sapna Jain as well.
The investigation revealed that the couple had been married since 2007 and have two children aged 17 and 15. Recently, there had been domestic disputes between them. Police noted that the businessman’s mother often sided with him, which caused resentment in Sapna Jain. This led her to involve her sister’s friend, Rajat, in the conspiracy. Significant information was also obtained from Sapna’s sister during questioning, which is aiding the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, it was found that Rajat had come into contact with a person named Karmveer Pehalwan, also known as Mita, while living in the United States about three years ago, which increased his connections with the Gogi gang’s network. He has several criminal cases registered against him across various police stations.
