Ahmedabad, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic case of honor killing has emerged in Ahmedabad, where a 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her father and brother. The incident reportedly occurred after a video of the woman with a man went viral. Authorities have revealed that the suspects attempted to stage her death as a road accident.
The victim, identified as Sofia, worked as a receptionist at a hospital. She died after being struck by a speeding vehicle while riding on a motorcycle. Initially, the police treated the incident as a hit-and-run case. However, their investigation led them to uncover the shocking truth about her family members’ involvement.
The accused have been named as Sofia’s father, Mohammad Farooq, and her 38-year-old brother, Mohammad Habeel. On the night of August 12, they took Sofia for a ride on a motorcycle. During the trip, they diverted to a deserted road near Gheljipura village. There, Habeel allegedly struck Sofia on the head with a hammer three times.
Following the attack, the father-son duo moved Sofia’s body back to the main road and damaged the motorcycle to make it appear as if it had been involved in a collision. Habeel then approached the authorities, claiming that a speeding vehicle had hit their motorcycle, resulting in severe head injuries to his sister while he sustained minor injuries.
Sofia was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day. During the investigation, police discovered that the father and brother were angry with Sofia due to the viral video and plotted her murder out of fear of social disgrace. They believed they were preserving the family’s honor.
Reports indicate that before leaving with his father, Habeel concealed a hammer inside his pants. The two are now in custody and face murder charges.
