Shekh Rashid’s Unbeaten Century Guides Andhra to Eight-Wicket Win Over Vidarbha

In a Ranji Trophy match at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh secured a convincing eight-wicket victory against Vidarbha by successfully chasing a target of 259 runs with eight wickets in hand. The highlight of Andhra’s innings was Shekh Rashid’s unbeaten 132-run knock, which played a crucial role in the team’s triumph.

Andhra Pradesh’s chase began on a shaky note as they lost the first wicket at 15 runs when Abhishek Reddy was dismissed for 11. However, S Bharat and Shekh Rashid steadied the innings with a 99-run partnership for the second wicket. Bharat contributed 43 runs before getting out. Following his dismissal, Rashid forged an unbroken 145-run stand with captain Ricky Bhui to comfortably take Andhra to victory.

Shekh Rashid remained not out on 132 runs off 144 balls, hitting 21 boundaries. Captain Ricky Bhui also played a significant role, remaining unbeaten on 64 runs, which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. Vidarbha’s Nachiket Bhute took both wickets for his side.

Earlier, Vidarbha elected to bat after winning the toss and posted 295 runs in their first innings, thanks largely to Yash Rathod’s impressive century (115 runs). Andhra Pradesh managed 228 runs in their first innings, giving Vidarbha a lead of 67 runs.

In their second innings, Vidarbha were bowled out for 191 runs, setting Andhra a target of 259 runs to win. Andhra’s successful chase meant Vidarbha’s 16-match losing streak in first-class cricket came to an end, as they suffered their first red-ball defeat since the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy final.
