Glasgow, July 28: Canada showcased its strength in the Individual Apparatus Finals of artistic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games 2026, securing three out of five gold medals on Monday.
The gold medal winners for Canada included Felix Dolci in men’s rings, Jordan Carroll in pommel horse, and Lia-Monica Fontaine in women’s vault. Other gold medalists on the day were Kate Macdonald from Australia in women’s uneven bars and Luke Whitehouse from England in the men’s floor event.
Felix Dolci delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s rings, transforming his bronze medal from Birmingham 2022 into gold at Glasgow 2026. He scored 13.766, clinching the title on an exciting day for artistic gymnastics. William Amard, who had the highest score in the qualifying round, was outperformed by his Canadian teammate in the gold medal race. Both athletes were part of the Canadian men’s team that won gold earlier in the games. James Hardy also secured his second bronze medal of the day in the floor event.
Australia’s Kate Macdonald won the women’s uneven bars with a challenging routine, scoring 14.333. Canada’s Ellie Black earned a silver medal, completing her set of medals at the Commonwealth Games; this was the only event where she had not previously won a medal. Emily Roper from Wales took home the bronze, just two hours after her twin sister Abigail won the same medal in the vault event.
Jordan Carroll of Canada achieved a remarkable score of 15.000 to win gold in the men’s pommel horse final. It was also a historic day for the host nation, Scotland, as Ruben Ward won his second silver medal in consecutive days, while Cameron Lynn also claimed a silver medal. This marked the first time in Commonwealth Games history that two Scottish gymnasts stood on the podium in artistic gymnastics. Fontaine secured gold in the women’s vault event.
In the first women’s apparatus event of the day, there were no surprises. Lia-Monica Fontaine, the top all-around competitor, showcased her skills with two impressive vaults to take first place. Luke Whitehouse won the first artistic gymnastics gold medal of the afternoon with a stellar floor routine. Canada’s Rene Cornoir earned the silver medal, while James Hardy captured the bronze.
