Shahjahanpur, February 21: Once known as the land of brave freedom fighters, Shahjahanpur is now emerging as a hub of development, education, and industrial progress. This district, long neglected, is rewriting its narrative through initiatives like a medical college, a proposed university, industrial investments, and the Ganga Expressway.

The birthplace of freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bismil has made significant strides in education and healthcare. The medical college established in Bismil’s name is not only providing modern treatment to local patients but also attracting students from neighboring districts and states for MBBS studies.

According to college administration, the state-of-the-art labs and a 100-bed hospital mean patients no longer need to travel to larger cities for care. The higher education landscape is also changing. The renowned Swami Shukdevanand College is being developed into a university, allowing local students to pursue quality education without migrating elsewhere.

MA graduate Nisha states, “We no longer need to go to Bareilly or Lucknow. Quality education is available here, and parents feel secure.” Political science student Upendra Singh notes that the university’s establishment has made higher education more accessible for economically disadvantaged students. The traditional craft of zari-zardosi has also given the district a new identity economically.

Under the state government’s One District One Product scheme, this traditional craft has been revitalized. Once on the brink of extinction, it is now carving a niche in the international market.

Artisan Mohammad Yasin Khan shares, “We started with 4-5 artisans; now 50 people are working. We are receiving orders from Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Our income has increased seven to eight times.” He adds that artisans now earn between 25,000 to 30,000 rupees per month. Industrial development is also gaining momentum, with factories like Ultratech Cement providing thousands of jobs to local youth. The expansion of industrial corridors and improved connectivity have increased investment opportunities. The Ganga Expressway has directly linked the district to major cities in the state.

Government schemes are making a noticeable impact in rural areas as well. Women like Sunita Pandey have gained self-employment opportunities through the Prime Minister’s Vishwakarma Scheme. Sunita says, “Receiving the government kit has made me self-reliant and a support for my family.” Meanwhile, the “Drone Didi” initiative is helping women adopt modern farming techniques to boost their income.

District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh emphasizes that law and order are prioritized in the district, with public hearings ensuring quick resolutions. The administration remains in action mode 24/7, fostering an environment conducive to investment and development. Shahjahanpur, once a symbol of neglect and despair, is now forging a new identity through integrated development in education, health, industry, and handicrafts. A golden chapter of progress is being written in this land of revolution.
