Chennai, August 8: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning for northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, predicting strong winds and thunderstorms on Saturday. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in several areas.
According to the weather bulletin, a weak atmospheric circulation extends from the southwest Bay of Bengal over Tamil Nadu towards the northern Kerala coast, reaching approximately 5.8 kilometers above sea level.
Additionally, another weak circulation is present at lower atmospheric levels over the coastal regions of northern Tamil Nadu.
Due to these weather systems, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting at 40-50 km/h is likely in some districts of the Western Ghats on Saturday. Similar conditions are anticipated in parts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, where light to moderate rain and strong winds are expected.
Scattered thunderstorms with light rain may occur in other parts of Tamil Nadu as well. The weather is expected to be relatively calm on Sunday, with light to moderate rain possible in some isolated areas of the Western Ghats.
From August 10 to 12, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. On August 13, isolated light to moderate rain is forecasted for the Western Ghats districts, northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
In other areas of Tamil Nadu, light rain may occur in one or two locations. The RMC indicated that there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between August 8 and 11.
During this period, daytime temperatures are expected to remain around normal levels. In Chennai and surrounding areas, partial cloud cover is anticipated on Saturday. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may occur in some parts of the city during the evening or night.
The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to range between 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may be between 27 to 28 degrees Celsius.
