Muzaffarpur, July 17: Seven schoolgirls fainted in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, due to a gas pipeline leak. The incident occurred near Rahua village on the Muzaffarpur-Pusa road. All the affected students are from the Plus-2 Rahua High School. Panic ensued in the area following the incident.
According to reports, construction work for a drainage system was being carried out by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDCO) near Rahua village. During excavation with a JCB machine, the underground PNG gas pipeline was damaged, leading to a gas leak. The seven schoolgirls passing by were exposed to the gas and began to feel unwell, eventually collapsing.
Local residents quickly transported the girls to the Musahari Primary Health Center (PHC), where doctors and nurses began treatment. The hospital experienced a chaotic situation for a considerable time. According to doctors, two of the girls have shown improvement and are continuing their treatment at the PHC.
However, five girls—Nahida Khatoon, Amrita Kumari, Rakhi Kumari, Divya Kumari, and Vishakha Kumari—were in serious condition and were referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur for advanced care. They were sent via ambulance to the medical college.
Upon hearing the news, the girls’ families rushed to the hospital to care for their daughters. Local social worker Neeraj Kumar Mishra stated that BUDCO is constructing a large drainage system from Muzaffarpur to Musahari, which also runs alongside the PNG gas pipeline. He explained that the pipeline was damaged during excavation, resulting in the gas leak and subsequent incident.
Following the incident, police and administrative officials from the Musahari police station arrived on the scene to assess the situation. Technical officers and staff from Indian Oil also reached the site to stop the gas leak. Currently, police and administration are investigating the entire matter.
