Congress Responds to H.D. Kumaraswamys Allegations in HMT Land Dispute

Bengaluru, July 18: The Congress party has issued a response to H.D. Kumaraswamy regarding the ongoing HMT land dispute. They released a detailed four-page document addressing the issue. Congress claims that HMT is a central public sector unit and that all major land transfers were conducted by HMT.

The party alleges that the largest transfer of 208.35 acres was approved by the BJP-led central cabinet in 2017. In 2020, under the BJP government in Karnataka, there were attempts to declassify 443 acres of forest land. Congress accused central minister H.D. Kumaraswamy of targeting Karnataka while heading the ministry that controls HMT.

Congress asserts that the Karnataka government is working to reclaim HMT land and preserve it as forest. They dismissed Kumaraswamy’s claim that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar diverted 175 acres of HMT land. The party has demanded that if Kumaraswamy possesses evidence of wrongdoing, he should make all land records public.

It is noteworthy that a sharp political dispute is ongoing between central minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the Karnataka government over ownership and use of HMT land in Bengaluru. The central government aims to revive this public company, while the state government is classifying it as forest land.

Kumaraswamy has alleged that in the past, collusion between politicians and private companies led to the diversion of over 175 acres of HMT land for commercial and residential projects. The central government is preparing a revival plan for HMT, but the minister claims that the state government is obstructing this effort by declaring the land as forest area.
