Security Forces Foil Maoist Plot, Defuse Two IEDs in Bijapur

Bijapur: Security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district successfully thwarted a major Maoist plot on Thursday by defusing two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted on a rural road.

A joint team comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG) Bijapur, Ilamidi police station, and the 9th battalion of the Chhattisgarh Special Armed Force conducted a search operation in the Ilamidi-Lankapalli area. During the operation, the team focused on detecting and neutralising explosive devices.

Two IEDs weighing between 20 to 30 kilograms each were recovered from the middle of a dirt road in Lankapalli. These devices were connected with a command switch system, indicating the Maoists’ intention to target a large vehicle or security convoy to inflict maximum damage.

The Bijapur Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) safely destroyed the explosives on site following all safety protocols. No casualties or accidents occurred during the operation.

This successful action highlights the alertness, intelligence, and prompt response of the security personnel, effectively foiling the Maoists’ harmful plan. Police officials confirmed that search and area domination operations will continue to maintain peace and security in this Naxal-affected region.

Such operations are common in areas like Bijapur, where Maoists frequently plant IEDs to target security forces and civilians. The incident underscores the preparedness and vigilance of the forces, preventing any major tragedy.

The administration and police have urged local residents to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious objects. Authorities have assured that similar proactive operations will be maintained to ensure safety and security in the district.
