Major Drug Bust in Mizoram: Six Arrested, Heroin Worth ₹1.31 Crore Seized

Aizawl, June 27: The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police and the Excise and Narcotics Department, conducted multiple operations that led to the seizure of heroin valued at over ₹1.31 crore and the arrest of six drug traffickers, including three women.

According to a defense spokesperson, the operations were based on specific intelligence. Assam Rifles personnel, in coordination with the Mizoram Police, executed a targeted operation in the Jote area of Champhai district.

During the search of a suspicious two-wheeler, the joint team recovered 87.2 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth around ₹65.40 lakh in the international market. One suspected drug trafficker was apprehended during this operation. The seized narcotics, along with the accused and the vehicle, were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal action.

In a separate operation based on additional intelligence, Assam Rifles, along with officials from the Excise and Narcotics Department, raided a house in Tuikual North in Aizawl district. The team discovered approximately 63 grams of heroin hidden in five boxes, with an estimated market value of ₹47.25 lakh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were trafficked from Myanmar for distribution in Aizawl and other parts of the country. Four individuals, including three women, were arrested during this operation. The accused and the seized substances were also handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further inquiry.

In a third operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police conducted another joint search in the Jote area of Champhai district, resulting in the recovery of 24.8 grams of heroin valued at approximately ₹18.60 lakh from a suspicious vehicle. One person was arrested, and the narcotics, along with the accused and the vehicle, were submitted to the Excise and Narcotics Department for necessary legal proceedings.

An official statement indicated that these successful operations reflect the Assam Rifles’ ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring the safety of border communities.
