Assam Intensifies Crackdown on Fake Doctors, 62 Arrested: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, June 27: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the state government has intensified its crackdown on fake doctors. He emphasized that maintaining the credibility of the healthcare system is among the government’s top priorities.

The Chief Minister took to social media platform X to express the government’s commitment to eradicating all forms of illegal activities from society.

He stated, “We are dedicated to eliminating all evils from society. Following extensive actions against drug traffickers and child marriage, we are now launching a campaign against fake doctors to ensure the credibility of our healthcare system and the safety of patients.”

Sarma shared details about the ongoing campaign against fake doctors conducted by the state police and health department.

According to the Chief Minister, 59 cases have been registered against alleged fake doctors across the state since 2025. So far, 62 fake doctors have been arrested. The government is taking strict action against individuals who pose as doctors without valid degrees or licenses.

Officials warn that such individuals jeopardize patient safety by providing illegal and unsafe treatments. This crackdown on fake doctors is part of a broader law enforcement initiative by the state government over the past few years.

Previously, the state government has also conducted large-scale campaigns against drug trafficking, illegal substance trade, and child marriage. The Chief Minister has repeatedly stated that strict action is necessary to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.

Authorities have confirmed that the campaign against fake doctors in Assam will continue. Those found treating patients without recognized qualifications or licenses will face severe legal consequences.

The government has urged the public to seek treatment only from registered doctors and to report any information about fake doctors to the administration immediately. They assert that public cooperation is essential to curb fraudulent medical practices and maintain the quality of healthcare services in the state.
