Second Motorcycle Recovered in Chandranath Rath Murder Case, No Arrests Yet

Kolkata, May 8: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the West Bengal Police has recovered a second motorcycle used in the murder of Chandranath Rath, a personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. The incident occurred on the night of May 6 in Madhyamgram, located in North 24 Parganas district.

Initially, it was believed that only one motorcycle-riding assailant was pursuing Rath after he left a BJP event. However, police sources indicate that two motorcycles were involved in the chase.

The first motorcycle was found on Thursday afternoon in a deserted area near Dohariya Crossing in Madhyamgram. The second motorcycle was discovered on Friday, abandoned near a railway crossing in the Barasat area of North 24 Parganas.

Prior to this, police had also recovered the four-wheeled vehicle that blocked Rath’s car. Following this, the motorcycle-riding assailants approached and fired multiple rounds at close range, resulting in Rath’s immediate death.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Chandranath Rath was shot around 10:30 PM on Wednesday while returning home in his car. His driver, Budhadev Bera, was also injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment in a Kolkata hospital.

Investigators have discovered that both the four-wheeled vehicle that obstructed Rath’s car and the first recovered motorcycle had fake license plates. Authorities suspect that the second motorcycle may also have a counterfeit plate.

According to a police source, the manner in which the murder was executed indicates that it was a premeditated plot, with Rath’s activities being monitored for an extended period. The source noted that the assailant’s approach and the precision of at least ten rounds fired from close range suggest that the shooter was both professional and experienced.
