School Closed: All Schools in Punjab to Remain Closed Until September 3 Due to Floods

(Kiran News). Heavy rains have caused severe disruption in the hilly areas, with water flowing down from the mountains and raising the river levels. From Rajasthan to Punjab and Haryana, life has been thrown out of gear by continuous downpours. In Punjab alone, more than a thousand villages across nine districts are facing flood threats, with crops suffering significant damage.

Amidst this natural disaster, the Punjab government has decided to keep all schools in the state closed until September 3, prioritising the safety of students and staff. This order applies to all government, aided, recognised, and private schools. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that the decision was made on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure that no student or teacher faces difficulties during this period.

Relief and rescue operations have been intensified to address the flood situation. The government has appealed to parents to give top priority to the safety of children and follow all administrative instructions.

Schools Closed Across Punjab

Schools in Punjab were initially closed from August 27 to August 30, but the holidays have now been extended till September 3. Harjot Singh Bains also clarified that some private schools have called teachers despite the holidays. He warned that strict action will be taken by the district administration against such schools. Clear instructions have been issued to officials regarding compliance.

Due to ongoing heavy rains, all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes in Punjab will also remain closed until September 3, 2025, with immediate effect.

Heavy Rain Warning in Punjab

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the next three hours (from 7 am) for several regions in Punjab, including Chandigarh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

Weather Condition in Delhi-NCR

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for the Delhi region, warning of thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in Delhi and Noida. The sky is expected to remain cloudy with chances of rain or thundershowers at several places.
